Summer School of Rock Camp*
“If you can learn to sing or play an instrument with new friends, you’ll never be bored,” is a Savage Club theme.
Lansing's free Summer School of Rock Camp is a “Learn It and Do It” camp that teaches any student how to play music with other people. It is a free camp open to all singers, all instruments (from guitars, horns, woodwinds, and strings to egg shakers), all towns, and all abilities.
Students will learn basics on how to jam with others, how to form a band, how to choose songs, how to rehearse, and how to perform.
Local musicians and members from the Motown group the X’Plozionz volunteer to provide vocal coaching and instrument clinics on playing guitars, drums, keyboards, and all other instruments.
Students will form small combos and learn one or two songs by the end of the week. Everyone will get an uplifting chance to play.

The 2026 School of Rock Camp is free for 7th to 12th graders from Lansing, NY or any nearby town. Sign-ups for the next camp are through the Lansing Parks & Recreation Summer Youth Programs website. The one-week camp will be held July 6 (Monday) to July 10 (Friday) at 1:30-4:30 at the Savage Club's Lansing Area Performance Hall (1004 Auburn Road).
At the end of the week, there will be a free Friday evening concert (July 10th) at the Savage Club’s Lansing Area Performance Hall for those students who would like to perform a song for their family or friends.
The Motown band, The X’Plozionz will then perform at the end of the concert. A graduation reception will follow.

Registration will not open until Spring of 2026, but here is a sample of last year's registration flier. Students need to register through the Lansing Parks & Recreation Summer Youth Programs website: LansingRec.Recdesk.com. Again, registration opens in Spring of 2026.
